Usually, it is a mildly acid taste, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are considered a good blender due to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco location, especially the Urubamba Valley, also produces respected wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru coffee may be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming area and in part influenced from the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatra, are grown at lower elevations.
Both coffees exhibit a simple & balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall and leggy low yield shrub but produces high qualities, typically very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area lies at an elevation range of 1000–1,800 m.
