Usually, a mildly acid cup, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru beans are considered a good blending coffee owing to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also grows respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee beans can be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the cultivating location and partly influenced by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are farmed at lower altitudes.
Both coffees exhibit a simple and balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee crop:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica variety that is a tall & leggy low yield plant but produces great qualities, generally quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee growing area is at an altitude range of 1,000–1,800 m.
