Usually, it is a mildly acid cup, light-bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peru beans are thought of as a good blender owing to its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco area, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a dark roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the growing location and partly impactged from the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans show a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall and leggy low yield shrub but produces great qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest being of other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area is at an elevation range of 1000 to 1,800 metres.
