Generally, it is a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peruvian beans are considered a good blending coffee because of its nice but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also produces respected wet-processed coffee. The highest level is AAA.
Peru coffee may be a darker roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the bean roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the cultivating location & in part impactged by the way a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatra, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffees show a simple & balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type that is a tall and leggy small yield tree but provides high qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder being of other types.
About 75% of the coffee growing area lies at an altitude range of 1,000 to 1,800 m.
