Typically, a mildly acid coffee, light-bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peruvian coffee beans are considered a good blending coffee due to its pleasant but understated attributes. The Cuzco area, especially the Urubamba Valley, also produces renound wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee may be a darker roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast depends on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is because of the farming area and partly impactged from the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this type. The coffees that are lower in acidity, such as Sumatra, are produced at lower elevations.
Both coffees show a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the primary coffee grown:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy low yield shrub but produces excellent qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally discovered in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder being of other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee growing area is at an elevation range of 1,000 to 1800 metres.
