Usually, a mildly acid taste, light bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peru coffee are known as a good blender due to its nice but understated character. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also grows renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peruvian coffee may be a dark roast but does not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the coffee bean roasting after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is well matched to both light and dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the cultivating location and partly impactged by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are grown at lower altitudes.
Both coffees have a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee.
Arabica is the largest coffee grown:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall and leggy low yield shrub but produces high qualities, generally very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee tree that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the remainder are other varieties.
About 75% of the coffee cultivating area is at an altitude range of 1000–1800 m.
