Generally, it is a mildly acid taste, light bodied but flavourful & aromatic. Peruvian are known as a good blender due to its nice but understated attributes. The Cuzco location, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also produces respected wet-processed coffee. The best grade is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a dark roast but do not need to be. lighter or darker roast is dependent on the coffee roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both light & dark roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the growing region and in part impactged by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatra, are farmed at lower altitudes.
Both coffees show a simple and balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is not as thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and does not have the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee farmed:
- 70% of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica strain which is a tall & leggy small yield shrub but provides great qualities, typically quite sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest are other varieties.
About 75 percent of the coffee cultivating area is at an altitude range of 1,000–1800 metres.
