Typically, it is a mildly acid taste, light bodied but tasteful & aromatic. Peru beans are thought of as a good blender owing to its pleasant but understated characteristics. The Cuzco region, particularly the Urubamba Valley, also cultivates respected wet-processed coffee. The highest grade is AAA.
Peruvian coffee may be a darker roast but do not need to be. Light or dark roast depends on the coffee bean roaster after the coffee has been farmed. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter & darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is in part due to the farming area and partly impactged by the method a bean is processed & roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans falls into this category. The coffees that are less in acidity, such as Sumatran, are produced at lower elevations.
Both coffee beans show a simple yet balanced flavour. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity and lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian beans.
Arabica is the primary coffee farmed:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall & leggy low yield tree but provides great qualities, usually very sweet & clean);
- 20% is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee plant that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, thought to be the 1st naturally occurring mutation ever discovered); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75% of the coffee growing area is at an elevation range of 1000–1800 m.
