Generally, a mildly acid flavour, light bodied but tasteful and aromatic. Peru coffee are thought of as a good blending coffee owing to its pleasant but understated character. The Cuzco region, especially the Urubamba Valley, also produces renound wet-processed coffee. The best level is AAA.
Peru coffee beans can be a darker roast but does not need to be. Light or dark roast is dependent on the coffee roasting after the coffee has been grown. Peruvian coffee is suited to both lighter and darker roasting.
The acidity of a coffee is as a result of the cultivating area and in part impactged by the method a bean is processed and roasted. Brazilian, Peruvian, Kenyan and Ethiopian beans are all in this type. The coffees that are reduced in acidity, such as Sumatran, are farmed at lower altitudes.
Both coffee beans show a simple yet balanced taste. Peruvian coffee is less thick as Colombian, instead with a medium mouthfeel. Peruvian coffee is also medium in acidity & lacks the aromatic quality of a Colombian coffee beans.
Arabica is the largest coffee cultured:
- 70 percent of which is Typica (Typica is an original Arabica type which is a tall and leggy small yield shrub but produces high qualities, typically very sweet & clean);
- 20 percent is Caturra (Caturra is a natural mutation of the Bourbon coffee variety that was originally found in Brazil in 1937, considered to be the first naturally occurring mutation ever found); and
- the rest are other types.
About 75% of the coffee farming area is at an altitude range of 1000–1800 m.
