FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that originate from Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a long history of coffee production, one that dates back numerous centuries ago. It is the origin to one of the most preferred types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, often termed as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans total three 5 of the world coffee production. This clearly shows the influence that the Ethiopian coffee farming regions have on global coffee consumption.

It is thought that, about 1000 years ago, a goatherd stumbled upon the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for the quality of taste & the amount of perfection it has. That being said, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?

Ethiopian coffee, ostensibly, is known for its bright mouthfeels and the winery flavour & quality it has. The coffee beans from this area are typical of higher acidity & have complex tasting notes.

The major cause of the flavour that comes & has been linked with Ethiopian coffee is the processing utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans exhibit winery tomes, and they typically have a higher acidity than coffee beans from other countries.

A medium roasting will often give the best balance between body, flavours, and acidity for Ethiopian coffee. That being said, you have to try out a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and may be finicky, that makes it difficult to roast them.

There are a multitude of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is cultivated in particular locations in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these regions are different, which changes the flavour of the coffee each location grows.

The coffee types are mostly sold under the areas of their origin.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee produced in & around a small town in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is farmed at elevations of between 1,700 & 2,200 meters ASL. Such altitudes qualify Yirga Cheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).

Such altitudes hinder the fast growth of coffee. Since the coffee trees grow at a reduced rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also plays a important role; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity and the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma can even exhibit a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee types show notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee produced in the southern areas of Ethiopia and also holds its own against other coffee varieties from other regions.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is farmed from a small & particular location in the world. Most coffee lovers do think that a single origin coffee is, in fact, superior to other varieties of coffee as it is purer & more homogenous in taste. This exclusivity makes single origin coffee more appealing.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single-origin because it is only grown and prepared in the Yirgacheffe area. Which is the reason why it has distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee tree, comes from. Now, it is produced in numerous regions worldwide, however Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As stated before, Ethiopia farms 3 % of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly cultivated on botique farms found in the Oromia area, formally named Harrar. Therefore, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type cultivated exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (also with Harrar & Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a lot of different taste varieties, most of the coffee, especially from regions such as Sidamo and Limu, is complex and can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee connoisseurs.

This will depend on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia can be more acidic than others, so it is good to check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee has mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans does not. Almost all of the Ethiopian coffee types are Arabica, that contains a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the Contrary, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee, has a caffeine content of 2.4%. Therefore, Ethiopian beans doesn’t have more caffeine than other varieties from other areas in the world.
