FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are farmed in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee cultivation, one that dates back numerous centuries ago. It is home for one of the most well liked species of coffee, Coffea Arabica, also known as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans comprise three 5 of the global coffee market. This clearly shows the importance that the Ethiopian coffee production regions have on global coffee consumption.

It is thought that, about 1000 years ago, a goat herder happened on the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the globe for the quality of flavour and the amount of refinement it has. That being said, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, apparently, is known for its bright mouthfeels & the winery flavour & quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this region are typical of greater acidity & have complex tasting notes.

The major cause of the flavour that comes and is linked with Ethiopian coffee is the processing used. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans exhibit winery tomes, and they typically have a higher acidity than coffee beans from other regions.

A medium roast can often give the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee. That being said, you have to try out a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, which can make it hard to roast them.

There are a multitude of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is cultured in specific regions in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic & soil characteristics of these places are different, this changes the taste of the coffee each region cultures.

The coffee types are mostly sold as the areas that they come from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a washed, wet-processed coffee grown in and around a little town in south Ethiopia, called Yirgacheffe. The coffee is grown at altitudes inbetween 1,700 & 2,200 meters ASL. Such altitudes allow Yirga Cheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes reduce the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee trees grow at a reduced rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also plays a important role; the berries can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity & the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma may even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee varieties exhibit notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is thought to be the best coffee produced in the southern areas of Ethiopia and also holds its own alongside other coffee varieties from other locations.

Single origin coffee is coffee that comes from a small & particular region in the world. Most coffee lovers do think that a single origin coffee is, in fact, better than other varieties of coffee because it is purer and more consistent in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more desirable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single origin because it is only farmed and prepared in the Yirga Cheffe region. Which is the reason why it shows distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee tree, comes from. Now, it is grown in many countries worldwide, however Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As mentioned before, Ethiopia produces three % of all the coffee globally, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mainly cultivated on botique farms situated in the Oromia area, formally named Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety cultivated exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a large area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia (also with Harrar & Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a lot of different taste varieties, a lot the coffee, especially from areas such as Sidamo and Limu, is complex & can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee drinkers.

This will depend on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will prove to be more acidic than others, so you should check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee is of mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee does not. Almost all of the Ethiopian coffee varieties are Arabica, which contains a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee, contains a caffeine content of 2.4%. Therefore, Ethiopian coffee does not have more caffeine than other varieties from other regions in the world.
