FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are grown in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a long history of coffee cultivation, one that goes back numerous centuries ago. Ethiopia is the origin for one of the most preferred species of coffee, Coffea Arabica, known as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans comprise three 5 of the world coffee market. This clearly exhibits the influence that the Ethiopian coffee cultivation areas have on global coffee consumption.

It is thought that, about one thousand years ago, a goatherd stumbled on the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the globe for the quality of taste and the amount of refinement it has. That being said, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?

Ethiopian coffee, seemingly, is known for its light mouthfeels and the winery flavour & quality it has. The coffee beans from this area are usually of greater acidity and have complex flavour notes.

The main reason behind the flavour that comes and is linked with Ethiopian coffee is the process utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans exhibit winery tomes, & they usually have a greater acidity than coffee from other areas.

The medium roast will result in the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. That being said, you can experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, that can make it hard to roast them.

There are a wide range of Ethiopian coffee varieties. Ethiopian coffee is cultivated in particular locations in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil characteristics of these locations differ, which affects the taste of the coffee each region produces.

The coffee types are mainly marketed under the regions that they come from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee farmed in and around a small town in south Ethiopia, called Yirgacheffe. The coffee is at altitudes of between 1,700 and 2200 meters ASL. Such altitudes qualify Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes slow down the fast growth of coffee. Since the coffee trees grow at a slower rate, they have increased time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also contributes a huge role; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity & the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma may even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee types have notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee farmed in the south areas of Ethiopia and also holds its own against other coffee types from other regions.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is grown from a small & specific region in the world. Many coffee connoisseurs do believe that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other types of coffee because it is purer and more consistent in flavour. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more favouable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single source because it is only cultivated & prepared in the Yirga Cheffe region. Which is the reason why it exhibits distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is the nation the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, comes from. Now, it is cultivated in many regions worldwide, but Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As stated earlier, Ethiopia grows three percent of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly produced on little farms found in the Oromia area, formally called Harrar. Therefore, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type produced exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity flavours that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different taste varieties, most of the coffee, especially from places such as Sidamo & Limu, is complex & can prove strong, particually with nascent coffee lovers.

This will depend on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will be more acidic than othervarieties, so you should check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans does not. Almost all of the Ethiopian coffee types are Coffee Arabica, which has a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the Contrary, Robusta, the strongest coffee beans, has a caffeine content of 2.4%. Thus, Ethiopian coffee beans does not have more caffeine than other types from other regions in the world.
