FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are farmed in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee production, one that goes back numerous centuries ago. Ethiopia is home for one of the most preferred types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, known as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans total three 5 of the global coffee farming. This clearly shows the influence that the Ethiopian coffee production locations have on global coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about 1000 years ago, a goatherd stumbled on the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the world for the quality of taste and the amount of refinement it has. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, ostensibly, is known for its bright mouthfeels & the winery flavour & quality it has. The coffee beans from this region are commonly of higher acidity and have complex tasting notes.

The major cause of the flavour that comes and has been associated with Ethiopian coffee is the processing used. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still attached to the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans exhibit winery tomes, & they tend to have a higher acidity than coffee beans from other areas.

A medium roast will give the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. That being said, you can try out a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and may be finicky, that makes it hard to roast them.

There are a wide range of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is farmed in particular locations in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic & soil characteristics of these places are different, which impacts the taste of the coffee each location grows.

The coffee types are mostly marketed under the areas that they come from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a washed, wet-processed coffee produced in and around a little village in south Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is produced at elevations inbetween 1,700 & 2,200 meters ASL. Such elevations allow Yirga Cheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such elevations hinder the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee trees grow at a slower speed, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also contributes a huge role; the fruit can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity & the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. At times, the aroma might even exhibit a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee types exhibit notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is said to be the best coffee farmed in the south part of Ethiopia and also holds its own against other coffee types from other areas.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is farmed from a small and particular location in the world. Many coffee lovers do insist that a single origin coffee is, in fact, superior to other types of coffee because it is purer & more consistent in taste. This exclusivity makes single origin coffee more desirable.

Yirga Cheffe Coffee is, in fact, single source because it is only cultivated and prepared in the Yirga Cheffe origin. That is the reason why it shows distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is the country the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, originates from. Now, it is produced in many regions worldwide, however Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As stated earlier, Ethiopia grows 3 percent of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mainly produced on small farms situated in the Oromia region, formally called Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety produced exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a large area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (also with Harrar & Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with many different taste varieties, a lot the coffee, especially from regions such as Sidamo and Limu, is complex & can prove strong, particually with nascent coffee lovers.

This depends on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will prove to be more acidic than other types, so you should check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, it doesn’t. Almost all of the Ethiopian coffee types are Arabica, which has a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the Contrary, Robusta coffee, the strongest bean, has a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Therefore, Ethiopian coffee doesn’t contain more caffeine than other types from different areas in the world.
