FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that come from Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee bean cultivation, one that dates back numerous centuries ago. Ethiopia is the origin to one of the most well liked types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, known as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans comprise three percent of the world coffee market. This clearly exhibits the influence that the Ethiopian coffee cultivation locations have on world coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about one thousand years ago, a goatherd happened on the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for the quality of taste & the level of perfection it comes with. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, primarily, is known for its light mouthfeels and the winery taste & quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this area are typical of greater acidity and come with complex tasting notes.

The primary cause of the taste that comes and has been associated with Ethiopian coffee is the process utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still attached to the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans get winery tomes, and they tend to have a greater acidity than coffee from other regions.

The medium roast will provide the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. That being said, you have to experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, which makes it difficult to roast them.

There are a wide range of Ethiopian coffee varieties. Ethiopian coffee is grown in specific locations in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these places are different, this affects the taste of the coffee each region grows.

The coffee types are mostly marketed as the regions that they are from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee cultivated in and around a small village in south Ethiopia, called Yirgacheffe. The coffee is at altitudes inbetween 1,700 & 2,200 meters ASL. Such altitudes qualify Yirga Cheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).

Such altitudes hinder the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee trees grow at a slower rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also plays a significant role; the fruit can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity & the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma can even have a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee varieties show notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is said to be the best coffee produced in the south region of Ethiopia & also holds its own against other coffee types from other areas.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is farmed from a small & particular region in the world. Most coffee connoisseurs do insist that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other varieties of coffee because it is purer and more stable in flavour. This exclusivity makes single origin coffee more desirable.

Yirga Cheffe Coffee is, in fact, single-origin since it is only farmed & processed in the Yirgacheffe region. Which is the reason why it shows distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee plant, originates from. Now, it is cultured in many places worldwide, but Ethiopia still farms a lot of it. As stated before, Ethiopia grows 3 percent of all the coffee globally, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly farmed on botique farms located in the Oromia region, formally named Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type cultivated exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a large region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a range of different flavour profiles, most of the coffee, particually from regions like Sidamo & Limu, is complex and can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee lovers.

This depends on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will be more acidic than othervarieties, so you have to check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee is of mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans doesn’t. Most of the Ethiopian coffee types are Arabica, which has a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the Contrary, Robusta, the strongest coffee, has a caffeine content of 2.4%. Therefore, Ethiopian coffee does not have more caffeine than other types from different locations in the world.
