FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are grown in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee bean cultivation, one that dates back numerous centuries ago. Ethiopia is the origin to one of the most popular species of coffee, Coffea Arabica, also known as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans make up 3 5 of the global coffee production. This clearly shows the importance that the Ethiopian coffee growing areas have on world coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about 1000 years ago, a goat herder happened on the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for the quality of flavour and the amount of refinement it comes with. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?

Ethiopian coffee, ostensibly, is known for its light mouthfeels and the winery taste & quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this region are usually of greater acidity & come with complex flavour notes.

The major cause of the taste that comes & has been associated with Ethiopian coffee is the process used. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still attached to the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans get winery tomes, & they usually have a greater acidity than coffee from other areas.

The medium roast will give the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. That being said, you can experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small & can be finicky, which can make it hard to roast them.

There are a myriad of Ethiopian coffee varieties. Ethiopian coffee is farmed in specific locations in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these locations differ, this affects the flavour of the coffee each place cultivates.

The coffee types are mainly sold under the areas that they come from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee grown in and around a little town in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultivated at altitudes inbetween 1,700 and 2,200 meters ASL. Such elevations allow Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).

Such elevations reduce the rapid growth of coffee. Since the coffee trees grow at a slower speed, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also plays a important role; the berries can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity & the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. At times, the aroma can even have a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee varieties show notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee cultivated in the southern part of Ethiopia and also holds its own alongside other coffee types from other areas.

Single-origin coffee is coffee that is cultivated from a little and particular area in the world. Most coffee connoisseurs do insist that a single origin coffee is, in fact, better than other types of coffee because it is purer & more consistent in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more appealing.

Yirga Cheffe Coffee is, in fact, single source because it is only farmed and processed in the Yirga Cheffe origin. That is the reason why it shows distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, originates from. Now, it is produced in many countries across the globe, however Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As stated earlier, Ethiopia farms three % of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is primarily grown on little farms located in the Oromia area, formally named Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type produced exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a large region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity flavours that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a range of different taste varieties, most of the coffee, especially from places such as Sidamo & Limu, is complex and can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee drinkers.

This will depend on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some locations in Ethiopia will prove to be more acidic than other types, so you should check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee is of mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans does not. Most of the Ethiopian coffee varieties are Arabica, which contains a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee beans, contains a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Thus, Ethiopian coffee does not have more caffeine than other varieties from different locations in the world.
