FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that come from Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a extended history of coffee bean production, one that dates back numerous centuries ago. It is the origin for one of the most preferred types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, also known as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans constitute 3 percent of the global coffee production. This clearly shows the importance that the Ethiopian coffee production locations have on world coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about 1000 years ago, a goatherd stumbled upon the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for the quality of taste and the amount of perfection it has. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, primarily, is known for its bright mouthfeels & the winery flavour & quality it has. The coffee beans from this area are typical of greater acidity & come with complex flavour notes.

The primary cause of the flavour that comes & is linked with Ethiopian coffee is the process utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans get winery tomes, & they commonly have a greater acidity than coffee from other regions.

The medium roasting can often result in the best balance between body, flavours, and acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. However, you have to experiment a bit to get that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, which makes it difficult to roast them.

There are a multitude of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is cultivated in specific regions in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil characteristics of these places differ, this changes the taste of the coffee each area farms.

The coffee types are mostly marketed as the areas that they are from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee produced in & around a little village in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultivated at elevations inbetween 1700 & 2,200 meters above sea level. Such altitudes allow Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).

Such altitudes hinder the fast growth of coffee. Since the coffee plants grow at a slower pace, they have increased time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also contributes a large role; the fruit can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity and the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma can even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee varieties have notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is said to be the best coffee farmed in the southern part of Ethiopia and also holds its own against other coffee varieties from other areas.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is farmed from a small & particular region in the world. Most coffee lovers do insist that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other types of coffee as it is purer & more consistent in taste. This exclusivity makes single origin coffee more desirable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single source because it is only cultured & processed in the Yirgacheffe area. Which is the reason why it shows distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee plant, originates from. Now, it is farmed in many parts worldwide, but Ethiopia still farms a lot of it. As stated earlier, Ethiopia farms 3 % of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mainly cultivated on botique farms located in the Oromia area, formally known as Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety grown exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different taste profiles, most of the coffee, especially from places like Sidamo and Limu, is complex & can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee lovers.

This will depend on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will prove to be more acidic than other types, so you should check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans does not. Most of the Ethiopian coffee types are Arabica, which has a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the other hand, Robusta, the strongest bean, has a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Thus, Ethiopian beans doesn’t contain more caffeine than other types from different regions in the world.
