FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are grown in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee bean production, one that dates back a number of centuries ago. It is home for one of the most preferred types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, commonly called as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans total three 5 of the world coffee production. This clearly shows the influence that the Ethiopian coffee cultivation regions have on world coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about one thousand years ago, a goatherd happened upon the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the globe for the quality of taste and the level of perfection it has. That being said, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, seemingly, is known for its bright mouthfeels & the winery taste & quality it has. The coffee beans from this region are usually of greater acidity & have complex tasting notes.

The major reason behind the taste that comes & is associated with Ethiopian coffee is the processing used. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans develop winery tomes, and they commonly have a greater acidity than coffee beans from other areas.

The medium roasting will often give the best balance between body, flavours, and acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. However, you can try out a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small & can be finicky, that makes it hard to roast them.

There are a wide range of Ethiopian coffee varieties. Ethiopian coffee is cultivated in specific regions in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic & soil characteristics of these locations are different, this affects the flavour of the coffee each location farms.

The coffee varieties are mainly sold as the areas that they are from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee produced in and around a little town in southern Ethiopia, called Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultivated at elevations inbetween 1,700 & 2,200 meters ASL. Such altitudes qualify Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes slow down the rapid growth of coffee. Since the coffee trees grow at a slow pace, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also plays a large role; the fruit can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity & the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma can even exhibit a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee varieties display notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee produced in the south part of Ethiopia and also holds its own against other coffee varieties from other areas.

Single-origin coffee is coffee that is cultivated from a little & specific area in the world. Most coffee connoisseurs do insist that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other varieties of coffee as it is purer & more stable in flavour. This exclusivity makes single origin coffee more favouable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single origin since it is only produced and prepared in the Yirga Cheffe area. Which is the reason why it exhibits distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is the country the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, originates from. Now, it is grown in numerous places across the globe, however Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As mentioned earlier, Ethiopia grows three % of all the coffee globally, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly farmed on little farms situated in the Oromia area, formally named Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety cultivated exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a large area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (also with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity flavours that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different flavour profiles, most of the coffee, particually from regions like Sidamo and Limu, is complex & can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee drinkers.

This depends on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will prove to be more acidic than other types, so you have to check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans doesn’t. Almost all of the Ethiopian coffee varieties are Arabica, that has a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee beans, has a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Therefore, Ethiopian coffee doesn’t contain more caffeine than other types from different regions in the world.
