There are a multitude of Ethiopian coffee varieties. Ethiopian coffee is cultured in particular locations in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic & soil conditions of these places differ, this affects the flavour of the coffee each area cultivates.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a washed, wet-processed coffee grown in and around a small village in south Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultured at elevations inbetween 1700 & 2,200 meters ASL. Such elevations allow Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes reduce the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee plants grow at a slower rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also contributes a huge role; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity & the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma may even exhibit a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee types show notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee grown in the south part of Ethiopia and also holds its own alongside other coffee varieties from other areas.
