FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are farmed in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee farming, one that goes back numerous centuries ago. It is home for one of the most popular strains of coffee, Coffea Arabica, often termed as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans make up three percent of the world coffee production. This clearly exhibits the importance that the Ethiopian coffee farming regions have on global coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about one thousand years ago, a goatherd happened upon the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for the quality of taste and the level of perfection it has. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?

Ethiopian coffee, ostensibly, is known for its light mouthfeels and the winery flavour and quality it has. The coffee beans from this area are commonly of greater acidity and come with complex flavour notes.

The main cause of the flavour that comes & has been linked with Ethiopian coffee is the process used. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans exhibit winery tomes, and they commonly have a greater acidity than coffee from other countries.

The medium roasting can often result in the best balance between body, flavours, and acidity for Ethiopian coffee. However, you can experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small & may be finicky, that can make it hard to roast them.

There are a myriad of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is farmed in particular areas in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these locations differ, this changes the flavour of the coffee each place produces.

The coffee types are mostly marketed under the locations that they are from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee cultivated in and around a small village in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultured at altitudes inbetween 1,700 and 2,200 meters ASL. Such altitudes qualify Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such elevations slow the fast growth of coffee. Since the coffee plants grow at a reduced speed, they have increased time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also contributes a huge influence; the berries can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity & the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma can even exhibit a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee types display notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is said to be the best coffee farmed in the south region of Ethiopia and also holds its own against other coffee varieties from other locations.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is grown from a little and specific area in the world. Most coffee connoisseurs do insist that a single coffee origin is, in fact, better than other varieties of coffee as it is purer & more consistent in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more appealing.

Yirga Cheffe Coffee is, in fact, single-origin because it is only cultured & prepared in the Yirga Cheffe area. Which is the reason why it exhibits distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is the country the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee plant, comes from. Now, it is cultured in numerous countries across the globe, but Ethiopia still farms a lot of it. As mentioned earlier, Ethiopia grows 3 percent of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is primarily farmed on botique farms located in the Oromia region, formally called Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type cultured exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a large region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (also with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity flavours that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different taste varieties, most of the coffee, particually from regions like Sidamo and Limu, is complex & can prove strong, particually with nascent coffee connoisseurs.

This depends on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will be more acidic than other types, so you should check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans does not. The vast majority of the Ethiopian coffee types are Arabica, which contains a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee, contains a caffeine content of 2.4%. Therefore, Ethiopian beans does not contain more caffeine than other varieties from different locations in the world.
