FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that come from Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee bean production, one that goes back numerous centuries ago. It is the origin to one of the most well liked strains of coffee, Coffea Arabica, also known as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans total three 5 of the world coffee farming. This clearly shows the importance that the Ethiopian coffee production regions have on world coffee consumption.

It is thought that, about 1000 years ago, a goatherd happened upon the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the world for the quality of taste & the level of perfection it has. That being said, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, primarily, is known for its bright mouthfeels and the winery taste & quality it has. The coffee beans from this region are typical of higher acidity & have complex tasting notes.

The main reason behind the taste that comes and has been associated with Ethiopian coffee is the process used. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still attached to the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans develop winery tomes, and they typically have a higher acidity than coffee from other areas.

A medium roast will provide the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. However, you have to experiment a bit to get that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, which makes it hard to roast them.

There are a lot of Ethiopian coffee varieties. Ethiopian coffee is grown in particular regions in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these areas differ, this impacts the flavour of the coffee each area grows.

The coffee varieties are mainly marketed under the areas that they come from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee grown in & around a little town in south Ethiopia, called Yirgacheffe. The coffee is farmed at elevations of between 1,700 and 2200 meters above sea level. Such elevations qualify Yirga Cheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such elevations reduce the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee trees grow at a reduced rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also plays a important influence; the berries can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity and the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma can even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee types display notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee produced in the southern part of Ethiopia and also holds its own alongside other coffee varieties from other locations.

Single-origin coffee is coffee that is produced from a small and particular location in the world. Many coffee connoisseurs do believe that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other varieties of coffee as it is purer and more stable in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more appealing.

Yirga Cheffe Coffee is, in fact, single origin as it is only cultured & processed in the Yirgacheffe area. Which is the reason why it exhibits distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee plant, originates from. Now, it is produced in many countries worldwide, but Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As stated before, Ethiopia farms three % of all the coffee globally, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is primarily cultivated on little farms located in the Oromia area, formally called Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type grown exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia (also with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a lot of different flavour profiles, a lot the coffee, especially from regions like Sidamo & Limu, is complex & can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee connoisseurs.

This will depend on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some locations in Ethiopia will be more acidic than othervarieties, so it is good to check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee has mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans doesn’t. Almost all of the Ethiopian coffee types are Coffee Arabica, that has a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest bean, has a caffeine content of 2.4%. Thus, Ethiopian coffee does not have more caffeine than other varieties from other places in the world.
