FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are cultivated in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a long history of coffee cultivation, one that dates back numerous centuries ago. It is the origin for one of the most popular types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, commonly called as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans constitute three 5 of the global coffee farming. This clearly shows the importance that the Ethiopian coffee production regions have on world coffee consumption.

It is thought that, about one thousand years ago, a goat herder stumbled upon the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the globe for the quality of taste and the amount of perfection it has. That being said, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?

Ethiopian coffee, apparently, is known for its bright mouthfeels & the winery flavour and quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this region are typical of greater acidity & come with complex tasting notes.

The major reason behind the flavour that comes & has been linked with Ethiopian coffee is the processing used. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still attached to the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans get winery tomes, & they usually have a higher acidity than coffee beans from other regions.

The medium roast can often result in the best balance between body, flavours, and acidity for Ethiopian coffee. That being said, you have to try out a bit to get that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small & can be finicky, which can make it hard to roast them.

There are a multitude of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is cultured in particular areas in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic & soil conditions of these locations are different, which changes the taste of the coffee each region cultures.

The coffee varieties are mostly sold under the areas that they are from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a washed, wet-processed coffee grown in and nearby to a little village in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultivated at elevations of between 1,700 and 2,200 meters above sea level. Such altitudes allow Yirga Cheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).

Such altitudes slow the rapid growth of coffee. Since the coffee plants grow at a slower rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also contributes a important role; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity and the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma may even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee varieties have notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is thought to be the best coffee farmed in the southern areas of Ethiopia and also holds its own against other coffee varieties from other locations.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is cultivated from a little and specific location in the world. Most coffee connoisseurs do think that a single origin coffee is, in fact, superior to other varieties of coffee as it is purer and more consistent in flavour. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more desirable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single origin because it is only cultured & processed in the Yirgacheffe area. Which is the reason why it exhibits distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, comes from. Now, it is cultivated in numerous countries worldwide, however Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As mentioned before, Ethiopia farms 3 % of all the coffee globally, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly produced on botique farms located in the Oromia area, formally named Harrar. Therefore, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type grown exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (along with Harrar & Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity flavours that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a lot of different flavour varieties, most of the coffee, especially from regions such as Sidamo & Limu, is complex & can prove strong, particually with nascent coffee connoisseurs.

This will depend on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will prove to be more acidic than othervarieties, so it is good to check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans does not. Most of the Ethiopian coffee types are Coffee Arabica, that contains a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the Contrary, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee beans, has a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Thus, Ethiopian coffee does not have more caffeine than other varieties from other locations in the world.
