FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are cultivated in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a long history of coffee bean farming, one that dates back numerous centuries ago. It is home for one of the most well liked strains of coffee, Coffea Arabica, commonly called as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans comprise three percent of the global coffee farming. This clearly exhibits the influence that the Ethiopian coffee cultivation areas have on global coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about 1000 years ago, a goatherd stumbled on the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the world for the quality of taste & the level of perfection it comes with. That being said, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?

Ethiopian coffee, seemingly, is known for its bright mouthfeels and the winery flavour and quality it has. The coffee beans from this area are usually of higher acidity & have complex flavour notes.

The main cause of the flavour that comes and has been linked with Ethiopian coffee is the process utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still attached to the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans exhibit winery tomes, and they typically have a greater acidity than coffee from other countries.

The medium roast will often give the best balance between body, flavours, and acidity for Ethiopian coffee. That being said, you have to experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and may be finicky, which can make it difficult to roast them.

There are a multitude of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is cultivated in specific locations in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil characteristics of these places differ, which changes the taste of the coffee each location farms.

The coffee varieties are mainly marketed under the areas that they are from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee produced in and around a small town in south Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultured at elevations of between 1,700 & 2,200 meters ASL. Such elevations qualify Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).

Such altitudes slow down the rapid growth of coffee. Since the coffee trees grow at a slower rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also contributes a large role; the fruit can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity & the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma may even have a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee types display notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is thought to be the best coffee grown in the south areas of Ethiopia & also holds its own against other coffee varieties from other areas.

Single origin coffee is coffee that comes from a little and particular area in the world. Many coffee lovers do insist that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other types of coffee because it is purer and more homogenous in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more favouable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single source because it is only cultivated and prepared in the Yirga Cheffe origin. That is the reason why it shows distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, originates from. Now, it is produced in many areas across the globe, however Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As mentioned before, Ethiopia farms 3 percent of all the coffee globally, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly grown on small farms found in the Oromia region, formally named Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type cultured exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a range of different taste varieties, most of the coffee, particually from areas like Sidamo and Limu, is complex and can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee lovers.

This depends on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some locations in Ethiopia will prove to be more acidic than other types, so you have to check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans does not. The vast majority of the Ethiopian coffee varieties are Coffee Arabica, which has a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the Contrary, Robusta coffee, the strongest bean, has a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Therefore, Ethiopian coffee beans does not have more caffeine than other types from different areas in the world.
