FAQs
Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are grown in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee bean cultivation, one that goes back a number of centuries ago. It is home for one of the most popular types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, known as Arabica coffee.
Ethiopian coffee beans make up 3 5 of the global coffee production. This clearly exhibits the influence that the Ethiopian coffee production areas have on global coffee consumption.
It is thought that, about one thousand years ago, a goatherd stumbled upon the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is like Coffee.
Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for the quality of flavour & the amount of refinement it has. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?
Ethiopian coffee, apparently, is known for its light mouthfeels & the winery taste and quality it has. The coffee beans from this region are commonly of greater acidity and have complex tasting notes.
The primary cause of the flavour that comes & is associated with Ethiopian coffee is the process utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans show winery tomes, and they usually have a higher acidity than coffee beans from other areas.
A medium roasting will result in the best balance between body, flavours, and acidity for Ethiopian coffee. However, you have to try out a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, that can make it hard to roast them.
There are a lot of Ethiopian coffee varieties. Ethiopian coffee is cultivated in specific areas in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these areas are different, which affects the taste of the coffee each place farms.
The coffee varieties are mainly sold as the regions that they come from.
These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.
Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee farmed in and around a small village in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is at elevations of between 1700 and 2200 meters above sea level. Such elevations allow Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).
Such elevations hinder the fast growth of coffee. Since the coffee trees grow at a reduced speed, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also contributes a important influence; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.
Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity and the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. At times, the aroma may even have a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee types display notes of citrus and tangerine.
Yirgacheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee produced in the south areas of Ethiopia and also holds its own against other coffee varieties from other areas.
Single-origin coffee is coffee that comes from a little and specific location in the world. Many coffee connoisseurs do think that a single origin coffee is, in fact, better than other types of coffee as it is purer & more homogenous in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more desirable.
Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single origin as it is only cultivated & processed in the Yirga Cheffe area. Which is the reason why it has distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.
Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee tree, originates from. Now, it is produced in many regions across the globe, however Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As stated earlier, Ethiopia grows 3 % of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.
Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is primarily cultivated on little farms located in the Oromia region, formally called Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.
Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety farmed exclusively in the Sidamo.
Sidamo is a big region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (also with Harrar & Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.
Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.
The fruity flavours that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.
It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a lot of different taste varieties, a lot the coffee, particually from regions like Sidamo & Limu, is complex and can prove strong, particually with nascent coffee connoisseurs.
This depends on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia can be more acidic than othervarieties, so you should check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee is of mild acidity.
No, Ethiopian coffee doesn’t. The vast majority of the Ethiopian coffee varieties are Arabica, that contains a coffee concentration of 1.5%. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee beans, contains a caffeine content of 2.4%. Thus, Ethiopian coffee beans does not contain more caffeine than other types from different areas in the world.
