FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are farmed in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a long history of coffee cultivation, one that dates back numerous centuries ago. Ethiopia is the origin to one of the most preferred strains of coffee, Coffea Arabica, commonly called as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans total 3 5 of the world coffee farming. This clearly exhibits the influence that the Ethiopian coffee growing areas have on world coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about one thousand years ago, a goat herder happened on the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for the quality of taste & the amount of refinement it has. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, ostensibly, is known for its light mouthfeels & the winery taste and quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this region are typical of greater acidity and come with complex flavour notes.

The major reason behind the flavour that comes & has been associated with Ethiopian coffee is the process utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still attached to the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans get winery tomes, and they commonly have a greater acidity than coffee from other areas.

The medium roasting will often provide the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. That being said, you can experiment a bit to get that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small & may be finicky, that makes it difficult to roast them.

There are a lot of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is cultured in particular areas in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic & soil conditions of these places are different, which changes the flavour of the coffee each place farms.

The coffee types are mainly marketed as the areas of their origin.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee grown in and nearby to a little town in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultivated at elevations of between 1700 and 2200 meters above sea level. Such elevations qualify Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes slow the fast growth of coffee. Since the coffee plants grow at a slow rate, they have increased time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also contributes a significant influence; the fruit can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity & the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma might even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee varieties display notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee farmed in the southern areas of Ethiopia and also holds its own alongside other coffee varieties from other regions.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is cultivated from a little & specific location in the world. Most coffee connoisseurs do think that a single origin coffee is, in fact, better than other types of coffee because it is purer & more homogenous in flavour. This exclusivity makes single origin coffee more desirable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single source because it is only cultured and prepared in the Yirga Cheffe region. That is the reason why it exhibits distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, comes from. Now, it is farmed in numerous areas worldwide, but Ethiopia still produces a lot of it. As mentioned before, Ethiopia grows three % of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly cultivated on little farms found in the Oromia region, formally named Harrar. Therefore, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type cultivated exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (also with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different taste profiles, most of the coffee, especially from areas like Sidamo & Limu, is complex & can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee lovers.

This depends on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia are more acidic than othervarieties, so it is good to check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee is of mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee does not. The vast majority of the Ethiopian coffee types are Arabica, that has a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the other hand, Robusta, the strongest bean, contains a caffeine content of 2.4%. Thus, Ethiopian coffee does not contain more caffeine than other varieties from different areas in the world.
