FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are cultivated in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a long history of coffee farming, one that dates back a number of centuries ago. Ethiopia is the origin for one of the most well liked types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, often termed as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans total three 5 of the world coffee farming. This clearly exhibits the importance that the Ethiopian coffee cultivation regions have on world coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about 1000 years ago, a goat herder happened on the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the globe for the quality of taste & the level of perfection it comes with. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, ostensibly, is known for its bright mouthfeels and the winery flavour and quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this region are typical of greater acidity & come with complex flavour notes.

The major reason behind the flavour that comes & is associated with Ethiopian coffee is the process utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans exhibit winery tomes, and they typically have a higher acidity than coffee from other areas.

A medium roasting will often result in the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. However, you can experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and may be finicky, which makes it hard to roast them.

There are a multitude of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is grown in specific locations in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these locations are different, which affects the taste of the coffee each location farms.

The coffee varieties are mainly marketed as the regions of their origin.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee farmed in & around a little town in south Ethiopia, called Yirgacheffe. The coffee is at elevations of between 1,700 & 2200 meters ASL. Such altitudes qualify Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes hinder the fast growth of coffee. Because the coffee plants grow at a slow rate, they have increased time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also plays a important role; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity & the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma can even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee types exhibit notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is said to be the best coffee cultivated in the south region of Ethiopia & also holds its own against other coffee varieties from other regions.

Single-origin coffee is coffee that is cultivated from a small and specific location in the world. Many coffee lovers do insist that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other types of coffee because it is purer & more consistent in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more appealing.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single source since it is only grown & processed in the Yirga Cheffe region. That is the reason why it has distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee tree, originates from. Now, it is produced in many regions worldwide, however Ethiopia still farms a lot of it. As mentioned before, Ethiopia produces 3 % of all the coffee globally, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mainly produced on little farms found in the Oromia region, formally known as Harrar. Therefore, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety grown exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia (also with Harrar & Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different flavour varieties, most of the coffee, particually from areas like Sidamo and Limu, is complex & can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee lovers.

This will depend on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some locations in Ethiopia are more acidic than others, so it is good to check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, it doesn’t. Most of the Ethiopian coffee types are Coffee Arabica, that has a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest bean, contains a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Therefore, Ethiopian coffee does not have more caffeine than other varieties from different areas in the world.
