FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are cultivated in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a long history of coffee farming, one that goes back numerous centuries ago. Ethiopia is the origin for one of the most popular species of coffee, Coffea Arabica, known as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans comprise three 5 of the world coffee market. This clearly shows the influence that the Ethiopian coffee production locations have on world coffee consumption.

It is thought that, about 1000 years ago, a goatherd happened upon the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known worldwide for the quality of flavour and the amount of refinement it has. That being said, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, apparently, is known for its light mouthfeels & the winery taste & quality it has. The coffee beans from this area are usually of higher acidity and come with complex flavour notes.

The main reason behind the flavour that comes & is associated with Ethiopian coffee is the process used. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans develop winery tomes, and they commonly have a increased acidity than coffee from other areas.

The medium roasting can often result in the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. That being said, you can experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small & may be finicky, which makes it hard to roast them.

There are a myriad of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is grown in specific regions in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil characteristics of these areas are different, which changes the taste of the coffee each area produces.

The coffee types are mainly sold as the areas that they come from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is a washed, wet-processed coffee grown in & around a little town in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is farmed at altitudes of between 1,700 and 2200 meters above sea level. Such altitudes allow Yirga Cheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).

Such elevations slow down the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee trees grow at a reduced rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also contributes a important role; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity & the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma may even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee varieties have notes of citrus and tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee farmed in the southern part of Ethiopia & also holds its own alongside other coffee varieties from other areas.

Single-origin coffee is coffee that is farmed from a little & specific region in the world. Many coffee lovers do think that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other varieties of coffee as it is purer and more homogenous in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more favouable.

Yirga Cheffe Coffee is, in fact, single origin as it is only grown and prepared in the Yirgacheffe area. Which is the reason why it exhibits distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is the country the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee tree, comes from. Now, it is produced in many areas across the globe, however Ethiopia still produces a lot of it. As mentioned before, Ethiopia farms 3 percent of all the coffee globally, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly produced on botique farms located in the Oromia region, formally known as Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee type cultivated exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a range of different taste varieties, a lot the coffee, particually from places such as Sidamo and Limu, is complex & can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee lovers.

This depends on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia can be more acidic than other types, so you have to check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee has mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans does not. The vast majority of the Ethiopian coffee varieties are Arabica, which contains a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the Contrary, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee, has a caffeine content of 2.4%. Thus, Ethiopian beans does not have more caffeine than other varieties from different locations in the world.
