FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are cultivated in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a long history of coffee farming, one that goes back a number of centuries ago. Ethiopia is the origin to one of the most preferred types of coffee, Coffea Arabica, commonly called as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans constitute 3 5 of the global coffee production. This clearly shows the importance that the Ethiopian coffee cultivation regions have on global coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about one thousand years ago, a goatherd stumbled upon the coffee tree in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the world for the quality of taste & the level of perfection it comes with. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, apparently, is known for its light mouthfeels & the winery flavour and quality it has. The coffee beans from this area are usually of higher acidity & have complex tasting notes.

The main cause of the flavour that comes & is linked with Ethiopian coffee is the processing used. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still attached to the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans show winery tomes, and they typically have a greater acidity than coffee from other regions.

The medium roast will result in the best balance between body, flavours, and acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. However, you have to experiment a bit to get that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, that can make it difficult to roast them.

There are a wide range of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is cultured in specific areas in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these areas differ, which affects the taste of the coffee each place cultures.

The coffee types are mostly marketed as the regions that they are from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is a washed, wet-processed coffee grown in and nearby to a small village in south Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is at altitudes of between 1,700 and 2200 meters ASL. Such elevations allow Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly High growth (SHG).

Such altitudes slow the rapid growth of coffee. Since the coffee trees grow at a reduced rate, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also plays a huge influence; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity & the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma may even exhibit a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee varieties exhibit notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is thought to be the best coffee produced in the south region of Ethiopia and also holds its own alongside other coffee types from other regions.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is grown from a little & specific area in the world. Many coffee lovers do think that a single coffee origin is, in fact, superior to other types of coffee because it is purer & more homogenous in flavour. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more favouable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single-origin as it is only cultured and prepared in the Yirga Cheffe region. That is the reason why it exhibits distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is the country the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, comes from. Now, it is cultivated in many parts worldwide, however Ethiopia still produces a lot of it. As stated before, Ethiopia produces 3 percent of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly farmed on small farms found in the Oromia region, formally named Harrar. Thus, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety produced exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia (along with Harrar & Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity flavours that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different taste profiles, a lot the coffee, particually from areas like Sidamo and Limu, is complex and can prove strong, particually with nascent coffee drinkers.

This will depend on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some locations in Ethiopia can be more acidic than other types, so it is good to check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee is of mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee does not. The vast majority of the Ethiopian coffee types are Coffee Arabica, that contains a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the Contrary, Robusta coffee, the strongest bean, has a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Thus, Ethiopian beans does not contain more caffeine than other varieties from different areas in the world.
