FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are farmed in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee bean cultivation, one that goes back a number of centuries ago. It is home to one of the most popular strains of coffee, Coffea Arabica, often termed as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans total three 5 of the global coffee farming. This clearly shows the influence that the Ethiopian coffee production areas have on global coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about 1000 years ago, a goatherd stumbled on the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even what it is called is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the globe for the quality of taste & the level of perfection it comes with. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so good?

Ethiopian coffee, ostensibly, is known for its bright mouthfeels & the winery taste & quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this area are typical of greater acidity and come with complex flavour notes.

The major reason behind the flavour that comes & has been linked with Ethiopian coffee is the process used. Ethiopian coffee beans are naturally processed; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Therefore, the coffee beans develop winery tomes, & they usually have a higher acidity than coffee from other areas.

The medium roasting will provide the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee. However, you can try out a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, that can make it difficult to roast them.

There are a wide range of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is cultured in specific areas in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic and soil conditions of these locations differ, which affects the taste of the coffee each area cultures.

The coffee types are mainly sold as the areas of their origin.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirgacheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee grown in & around a little town in south Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is cultivated at elevations of between 1,700 and 2200 meters above sea level. Such altitudes allow Yirga Cheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes reduce the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee trees grow at a slower rate, they have increased time to soak in all the nutrients in the soil. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also plays a significant role; the fruit can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee is characterized by its light acidity & the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma might even exhibit a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee types show notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is said to be the best coffee farmed in the south region of Ethiopia & also holds its own against other coffee types from other areas.

Single-origin coffee is coffee that is grown from a little and specific location in the world. Many coffee lovers do insist that a single coffee origin is, in fact, better than other types of coffee because it is purer and more homogenous in taste. This exclusivity makes single-source coffee more favouable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single-origin because it is only grown & processed in the Yirga Cheffe area. Which is the reason why it has distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is the country the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee shrub, originates from. Now, it is farmed in numerous places worldwide, but Ethiopia still grows a lot of it. As stated earlier, Ethiopia grows three % of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild & exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mostly farmed on botique farms found in the Oromia region, formally called Harrar. Therefore, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety cultivated exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a large area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia (along with Harrar & Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with a range of different flavour varieties, most of the coffee, particually from areas like Sidamo & Limu, is complex & can prove strong, particually with nascent coffee drinkers.

This depends on the variety of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will be more acidic than othervarieties, so it is good to check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee is of mild acidity.

No, it does not. The vast majority of the Ethiopian coffee types are Arabica, which contains a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the Contrary, Robusta, the strongest coffee beans, contains a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Thus, Ethiopian coffee does not contain more caffeine than other types from different areas in the world.
