FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are farmed in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee bean production, one that goes back numerous centuries ago. It is the origin to one of the most popular species of coffee, Coffea Arabica, commonly called as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans constitute three percent of the world coffee market. This clearly shows the importance that the Ethiopian coffee production regions have on world coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about one thousand years ago, a goat herder happened upon the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the birth place of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is like Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the globe for the quality of flavour & the amount of refinement it comes with. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?

Ethiopian coffee, apparently, is known for its bright mouthfeels & the winery flavour & quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this area are commonly of greater acidity & come with complex flavour notes.

The primary cause of the flavour that comes & has been linked with Ethiopian coffee is the processing utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans show winery tomes, & they commonly have a higher acidity than coffee beans from other areas.

A medium roasting can often provide the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. However, you have to experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small and can be finicky, which can make it hard to roast them.

There are a lot of Ethiopian coffee types. Ethiopian coffee is farmed in specific areas in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic & soil conditions of these areas are different, this impacts the taste of the coffee each area produces.

The coffee varieties are mainly sold under the areas of their origin.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is a washed, wet-processed coffee farmed in & around a little town in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is farmed at altitudes of between 1,700 and 2,200 meters above sea level. Such altitudes allow Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes reduce the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee plants grow at a slow speed, they have more time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirga Cheffe also contributes a huge role; the fruit can develop a more robust taste.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity and the clean & complex floral notes in its aroma. At times, the aroma might even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee varieties exhibit notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirgacheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee cultivated in the south part of Ethiopia & also holds its own alongside other coffee types from other areas.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is grown from a little and particular area in the world. Most coffee lovers do believe that a single origin coffee is, in fact, better than other types of coffee because it is purer and more consistent in flavour. This exclusivity makes single origin coffee more appealing.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single-origin since it is only farmed & processed in the Yirgacheffe area. Which is the reason why it has distinctive notes, aromas, and the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee plant, comes from. Now, it is farmed in many areas worldwide, but Ethiopia still produces a lot of it. As stated before, Ethiopia produces 3 percent of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty significant.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is primarily farmed on small farms found in the Oromia area, formally known as Harrar. Therefore, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety produced exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a big region in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different taste profiles, most of the coffee, especially from areas like Sidamo & Limu, is complex and can prove strong, especially with nascent coffee drinkers.

This depends on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are drinking. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia are more acidic than othervarieties, so you should check where the coffee is from. Ostensibly though, Ethiopian coffee is of mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee beans doesn’t. The vast majority of the Ethiopian coffee types are Coffee Arabica, which has a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest bean, contains a caffeine percentage of 2.4. Therefore, Ethiopian beans does not have more caffeine than other varieties from other places in the world.
