FAQs

Ethiopian coffee beans are coffee beans that are cultivated in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has a decorated history of coffee bean production, one that dates back a number of centuries ago. Ethiopia is home for one of the most preferred strains of coffee, Coffea Arabica, often termed as Arabica coffee.

Ethiopian coffee beans total three percent of the world coffee farming. This clearly exhibits the importance that the Ethiopian coffee growing areas have on global coffee consumption.

It is believed that, about 1000 years ago, a goat herder happened upon the coffee plant in Kaffa. Thus, the origin of coffee in Ethiopia is in Kaffa. Even the name is similar to Coffee.

Ethiopian coffee is known all over the globe for the quality of flavour & the amount of perfection it has. However, why does Ethiopian coffee taste so great?

Ethiopian coffee, apparently, is known for its light mouthfeels and the winery flavour & quality it comes with. The coffee beans from this area are typical of greater acidity and have complex tasting notes.

The primary cause of the flavour that comes and has been associated with Ethiopian coffee is the process utilised. Ethiopian coffee beans are processed naturally; they are dried while the cherry fruit is still on the coffee bean. Thus, the coffee beans show winery tomes, and they usually have a greater acidity than coffee from other regions.

The medium roast can often result in the best balance between body, flavours, & acidity for Ethiopian coffee beans. However, you can experiment a bit to find that perfect roast since Ethiopian coffee beans are small & may be finicky, which can make it difficult to roast them.

There are a multitude of Ethiopian coffee varieties. Ethiopian coffee is cultured in particular areas in the country; Harar, Limu, and Yirgacheffe. The climatic & soil characteristics of these regions differ, this changes the flavour of the coffee each region grows.

The coffee types are mostly marketed under the regions that they come from.

These coffee types are Sidamo, Harar, and Genika.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is a cleaned, wet-processed coffee grown in & nearby to a small village in southern Ethiopia, named Yirgacheffe. The coffee is produced at altitudes of between 1,700 & 2200 meters ASL. Such elevations qualify Yirgacheffe coffee to be classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB).

Such altitudes slow the rapid growth of coffee. Because the coffee plants grow at a reduced speed, they have increased time to soak in all the nutrients in the earth. With the local climate, the Yirgacheffe also contributes a significant influence; the fruit can develop a more robust flavour.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is characterized by its bright acidity & the clean and complex floral notes in its aroma. Sometimes, the aroma might even show a hint of coconut. Some Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe coffee types display notes of citrus & tangerine.

Yirga Cheffe coffee is considered to be the best coffee produced in the southern part of Ethiopia & also holds its own against other coffee types from other areas.

Single origin coffee is coffee that is cultivated from a little and specific area in the world. Many coffee lovers do believe that a single origin coffee is, in fact, better than other types of coffee as it is purer & more consistent in taste. This exclusivity makes single origin coffee more favouable.

Yirgacheffe Coffee is, in fact, single-origin since it is only cultured and prepared in the Yirga Cheffe origin. Which is the reason why it has distinctive notes, aromas, & the feelings it induces.

Ethiopian coffee is Arabica. Ethiopia is where the coffee Arabica, which is the coffee tree, comes from. Now, it is grown in numerous countries worldwide, but Ethiopia still farms a lot of it. As stated earlier, Ethiopia grows three % of all the coffee in the world, which is pretty big.

Ethiopian Harrar coffee is a wild and exotic naturally processed variety of Arabica coffee. It is mainly grown on small farms situated in the Oromia region, formally known as Harrar. Therefore, the coffee is eponymous.

Sidamo coffee is an Ethiopian coffee variety grown exclusively in the Sidamo.

Sidamo is a large area in the fertile highlands in the Rift Valley. Sidamo is one of three trademarked coffee areas in Ethiopia (along with Harrar and Yirgacheffe). Sidamo coffee beans are known for their rich, full body and crisp acidity. They also have floral and citrus notes.

Ethiopian coffee has a mild and pleasant acidity, as well as a heavy winery and floral taste. The coffee also has a bright fruited taste. One is left with notes of blueberry, jasmine, and bergamot in the aftertaste.

The fruity tastes that characterise Ethiopian coffee can come across as sourness. This fact is proliferated when you switch to light coffee, like Ethiopian coffee, and you are used to the darker roasts.

It is strong. Even though Ethiopian coffee is so diverse, with so many different flavour profiles, most of the coffee, especially from areas such as Sidamo & Limu, is complex & can prove strong, particually with nascent coffee drinkers.

This will depend on the type of Ethiopian coffee you are consuming. The coffee {farmed|grown in some areas in Ethiopia will prove to be more acidic than othervarieties, so it is good to check where the coffee is from. Apparently though, Ethiopian coffee shows mild acidity.

No, Ethiopian coffee doesn’t. Most of the Ethiopian coffee types are Coffee Arabica, that contains a coffee percentage of 1.5. On the other hand, Robusta coffee, the strongest coffee, has a caffeine content of 2.4%. Therefore, Ethiopian beans does not contain more caffeine than other varieties from other locations in the world.
