FAQs

Colombian Coffee has a mild acidity and a robust caramel sweetness, possibly with a nut undertone, similar to higher-quality Peruvian coffee beans. Colombian coffee beans have the most identifiable coffee flavour in North America, that of sweet & medium-bodied.

It is possible to make strong Colombian coffee in comparison to non-Colombian coffee types. The strength of the coffee is influenced by the processing, roasting and brewing methods. Therefore, Colombian coffee is only strong if it is prepared to be stronger.  Increased percentage of low quality beans produce a bitter coffee, yet Colombian coffee keeps its flavour profile even when pushed via more rigorous & vigorous brewing methods.

These beans make a drink that is smooth, balanced, & light in body. There can be also overtones of fruit, almonds, and dark chocolate in the flavour profile.

Colombian coffee beans are among one the best anywhere. Colombia has a long history of growing Arabica beans, and the country’s specific topography makes it perfect for producing a tastey, top quality coffee bean. The coffee is known accross the world for its flavour and the distinct mild but rich aroma which rises from each cup. This may explain why they have been cultivating coffee for ~200 years, and it’s been their biggest export for most of that time.

Most people regard Costa Rican coffee as the best in Central America. Altitude classes are assigned to Costa Rican beans, with the best rated beans produced at the highest altitude. These beans are called “strictly high grown”.

In a small saucepan, bring water and panela to a boil. Panela is a product that is made from sugarcane, it is sweet and brown, is sold in blocks or grated and the taste is similar to that of brown sugar. Reduce heat to low & simmer for 30 min, occasionally stirring to melt panela.

In a little French press, place the ground beans. Pour Aguapanela (Aguapanela or Agua de Panela translates to “panela water”) over coffee until it gets to the brim of the French press.

allow it to stand for 4 minutes, stirring only once. Push down the French press & pour the coffee straight away.

Colombian coffee is best as a dark roast.  This as a result of the fuller, floral flavour, but light roasts made from Colombian beans are equally delicious. While retaining the bean’s flavour, cocoa & caramel flavours are brought to the forefront. The tastes & aromas of medium to dark roasts are stronger.

Colombian coffee’s growing conditions & processes make it thought to be the best by a lot of people, especially due to its distinct flavour. Farmers of the Arabica beans produce flavourful coffee with excellent quality at higher altitudes. They are then prepared natually on small farms by hand. The high altitude produces a better flavoured bean. Because of its favourable climatic characteristics, Colombian coffee beans are a rich, somewhat fruity, & chocolaty flavour.

The caffeine concentration of Colombian coffee is similar to that of other coffees. The caffeine content of a dark roast coffee is slightly greater than that of a light roast coffee. The difference is small and may not be noticable. Depending on the sub-variety and amount of roasting, high-quality Colombian Arabica coffee contains 30-50 mg per each espresso serving and up to 200 mg in an 235ml (~8-ounce) cup.

Colombian beans are among the most renound & popular in the world of coffee. They have a full-bodied taste that is well-balanced. Guatemalan beans are more known for their robust & balanced flavours than for their particular flavour profile. Guatemala coffee is also quite tasty coffee.

    • The hulling process

Colombian coffee beans are dried under the sun for a few days or until the moisture content reaches around 10 percent. This helps in the bean’s drying and preps it for hulling. Sumatran coffee spends a lot less time in the sun. Sumatran coffee is hulled with a lot higher moisture amount, sometimes as high as twenty percent.

To remove the hulls, special wet hulling equipment is needed. The wet hulling equipment also allows the coffee beans to ferment, giving them a distinct flavor that you will not find anywhere.

    • Acidity and flavour

Colombian coffee has a well-balanced flavour and moderate acidity. This coffee has a bit of a bite to it, but it is not overly harsh. Because of its smooth flavour, several coffee connoisseurs consider Colombian coffee to be among the greatest in the world. Sumatran coffee has a much lower acidity level. This makes it one of the greatest coffees for acid sensitivity.

Sumatran coffee has a distinctive flavour. It has earthy undertones that set it apart from the competition. You will detect hints of bell pepper, mushrooms, and even herbs when drinking Sumatran coffee. The way the coffee is processed and the land in which it is grown contribute to this flavour.

The Colombian coffee region, is called the Coffee Triangle. It is a part of the Colombian Paisa area in the rural area of Colombia. It is famous for culturing the largest amount of Colombian coffee. Squatters grazed sheep and cattle in Berwick Shire from the 1830s but there was little interest in the difficult terrain and poor soils in the hills. The discovery of gold in 1872 led to the application of Section 49 of the Land Act to the area which provided attractive terms to small selectors. An early pioneer William Brisbane named his guesthouse “Beaconsfield House” after the then British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (Lord Beaconsfield). When “Beaconsfield” Post Office opened on 7 October 1878 Brisbane was the first postmaster.
