FAQs
Colombian Coffee has a mild acidity and a robust caramel sweetness, possibly with a nutty undertone, similar to high quality Peruvian coffees. Colombian coffee beans have the most well known coffee flavour in North America, being sweet & medium-bodied.
It is possible to make stronger Colombian coffee in comparison to non-Colombian coffee types. The strength of the coffee can be altered by the processing, roasting and brewing process. Therefore, Colombian coffee is only strong if it is made to be stronger. Increased amounts of lower quality beans make a bitter brew, but Colombian coffee maintains its taste integrity even when pushed via more rigorous and vigorous brewing methods.
These coffee beans produce a cup that is smooth, balanced, and light in body. There can be also overtones of fruit, almonds, & dark chocolate in the flavour profile.
Colombian coffee is among one the finest anywhere. Colombia has a long history of producing Arabica coffee beans, & their particular topography makes it perfect for making a tastey, high-quality bean. The coffee is known worldwide for its taste & the destinctive mild but rich aroma that comes from each cup. This may explain why they have been cultivating coffee for ~200 years, and it’s been their biggest export for most of that period.
Many people consider Costa Rican coffee as the top one in Central America. Elevation ratings are given to Costa Rican beans, with the best rated beans produced at the greatest elevation. These beans are named “strictly high grown”.
In a little pot, boil water and panela. Panela is a product that is made from sugarcane, it is sweet and brown, is sold in blocks or grated & the flavour is like that of brown sugar. Reduce heat to low and cook for 30 minutes, occasionally stirring to melt panela.
In a small French press, place the ground coffee. Pour Aguapanela (Aguapanela or Agua de Panela translates to “panela water”) over coffee until it reaches the brim of the French press.
Brew for four min, stirring only once. Push down the French press & pour the coffee straight away.
Colombian coffee beans are best as a dark roast. This because of the fuller, floral flavour, however light roasts made from Colombian beans are just as delicious. While retaining the bean’s flavour, cocoa & caramel flavours are brought to the forefront. The flavours & smells of medium to dark roasts are stronger.
Colombian coffee’s cultivating conditions & processes make it considered to be the best by a lot of people, particually due to its distinct taste. Farmers of the Arabica beans produce flavourful coffee with outstanding quality at higher altitudes. They are then prepared natually on little farms by hand. The higher altitude produces a better tasting coffee bean. Due to its favourable climatic conditions, Colombia coffee is a rich, somewhat fruity, & chocolaty flavour.
The caffeine concentration of Colombian coffee is comparable to that of other coffee varieties. The caffeine content of a dark roast coffee is slightly greater than that of a light roast coffee. The difference is small & may not be noticable. Depending on the sub-variety & degree of roasting, top quality Colombian Arabica coffee contains 30-50 milligrams per each espresso serving and up to 200 mg in an 235ml (~8-ounce) cup.
Colombian beans are among the most renound and popular in the world of coffee. They have a full-bodied flavour that is well-balanced. Guatemalan beans are more praised for their robust and balanced flavours than for their particular flavour profile. Guatemala coffee is also quite tasty coffee.
- The hulling process
Colombian coffee beans are dried under the sun for a few days or until the water amount reaches around 10 percent. This helps in the bean’s drying and preps it for hulling. Sumatran coffee spends a lot less time in the sunshine. Sumatran coffee is hulled with significantly greater moisture content, at times as high as 20%.
To remove the hulls, special wet hulling equipment is needed. The wet hulling equipment also allows the coffee beans to ferment, giving them a distinct flavor that you will not find anywhere.
- Acidity and flavour
Colombian coffee has a well-balanced flavour and moderate acidity. This coffee has a bit of a bite to it, but it is not overly harsh. Because of its smooth flavour, several coffee connoisseurs consider Colombian coffee to be among the greatest in the world. Sumatran coffee has a much lower acidity level. This makes it one of the greatest coffees for acid sensitivity.
Sumatran coffee has a distinctive flavour. It has earthy undertones that set it apart from the competition. You will detect hints of bell pepper, mushrooms, and even herbs when drinking Sumatran coffee. The way the coffee is processed and the land in which it is grown contribute to this flavour.
