FAQs
Colombian Coffee provides a mild acidity & a robust caramel sweetness, occationally with a nutty undertone, similar to good quality Peruvian coffees. Colombian coffee beans have the most well known coffee flavour in North America, being sweet and medium bodied.
It is possible to produce strong Colombian coffee compared to non-Colombian coffee. The strength of the coffee is influenced by the processing, roasting and brewing methods. Therefore, Colombian coffee is just strong if it is prepared to be stronger. Higher proportions of lower quality beans produce a bitter coffee, but Colombian coffee maintains its taste profile even when pushed via more rigorous and vigorous brewing methods.
Colombian beans produce a taste that is smooth, balanced, & light in body. There can be also overtones of fruit, almonds, & dark chocolate in the flavour profile.
Colombian coffee beans are among one the finest in the world. Colombia has a long history of producing Arabica coffee, and the country’s particular topography makes it perfect for making a delicious, high-quality bean. The coffee is known worldwide for its taste & the destinctive mild but rich aroma which comes from each cup. This may explain why they have been cultivating coffee for ~200 years, and it’s been their leading export for the majority of that time.
Most people consider Costa Rican coffee as the top one in Central America. Elevation classes are assigned to Costa Rican beans, with the highest rated beans farmed at the highest altitude. These beans are referred to as “strictly firm beans”.
In a little pot, bring water and panela to a boil. Panela is a product that is produced with sugarcane, it is sweet and brown, is sold in blocks or grated & the flavour is like that of brown sugar. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, occasionally stirring to melt panela.
In a small French press, place the ground coffee beans. Pour Aguapanela (Aguapanela or Agua de Panela translates to “panela water”) over coffee until it reaches the brim of the French press.
Brew for four minutes, stirring only once. Push down the French press & pour the coffee straight away.
Colombian coffee beans are most suited for a dark roast. This as a result of the fuller, floral flavour, but light roasts made from Colombian beans are equally flavourful. While keeping the bean’s taste, cocoa and caramel flavours are brought to the forefront. The tastes and aromas of medium to dark roasts are stronger.
Colombian coffee’s producing conditions and processes make it considered to be the best by many people, particually because of its distinct flavour. Farmers of the Arabica beans produce flavourful coffee with excellent quality at higher elevations. They are then naturally processed on little farms by hand. The high altitude makes for a nicer flavoured bean. Due to its favourable climatic attributes, Colombian coffee beans are a rich, somewhat fruity, & chocolaty flavour.
The caffeine concentration of Colombian coffee is comparable to that of other coffee varieties. The caffeine content of a dark roast coffee is a little bit greater than that of a light roast coffee. The difference is minor and may go unnoticed. Depending on the sub-variety and amount of roasting, high quality Colombian Arabica coffee has 30-50 milligrams per single espresso serving & up to 200 mg in an 235ml (~8-ounce) cup.
Colombian beans are among the most renound and popular in the world of coffee. They have a full-bodied flavour which is well-balanced. Guatemalan beans are more known for their robust and balanced flavours than for their particular taste profile. Guatemala coffee is also very good coffee.
- The hulling process
Colombian coffee beans are dried benith the sun for a few days or until the water amount gets to around 10 percent. This aids in the bean’s drying & preps it for hulling. Sumatran coffee stays far less time in the sun. Sumatran coffee is hulled with significantly higher water amount, at times as high as 20 percent.
To remove the hulls, special wet hulling equipment is needed. The wet hulling equipment also allows the coffee beans to ferment, giving them a distinct flavor that you will not find anywhere.
- Acidity and flavour
Colombian coffee has a well-balanced flavour and moderate acidity. This coffee has a bit of a bite to it, but it is not overly harsh. Because of its smooth flavour, several coffee connoisseurs consider Colombian coffee to be among the greatest in the world. Sumatran coffee has a much lower acidity level. This makes it one of the greatest coffees for acid sensitivity.
Sumatran coffee has a distinctive flavour. It has earthy undertones that set it apart from the competition. You will detect hints of bell pepper, mushrooms, and even herbs when drinking Sumatran coffee. The way the coffee is processed and the land in which it is grown contribute to this flavour.
