Coffee plants were first brought to Mexico in the late seventeen hundreds from Cuba and the Dominican Republic. The country had a quick turnaround with it, exporting coffee commercially initially as early as 1802.

Costa Rica was the first country in Central America to {haveestablish} a fully functional commercial coffee market. It was a important exporter of coffee around the {globe|world{ by the 1820’s.

Since the launch of the organization Instituto del Café de Costa Rica in 1933, Costa Rican coffee has thrived and in had good quality. However, Costa Rica only cultivates under 1% of the {globe’sworld’s} coffee.

Guatemala
Like with the majority of Central American countries, Guatemala received coffee plants in the latter part of the 1700’s. However, unlike Mexico, industrial production did not really increase until the 1860’s when European migrants launched large-scale coffee farms.

Honduras
It is unclear exactly when coffee plants were imported to Honduras. It is expected that it was in the late 1700’s, like with other Central American nations, but therer is no specific record. Several sources claim 1804 as the first year that coffee plants were produced at large scale.

El Salvador
El Salvador is the littlest country in Central America. It is no surprise that El Salvador’s coffee bean market isn’t large.

Coffee arrived at El Salvador in the mid-1700’s, but really took off once indigo farms declined due to synthetic dyes in the 1800’s. By 1970, coffee production made up for 50% of the country’s GDP.
