History of coffee in Central America

Mexico
Coffee was first taken to Mexico in the late seventeen hundreds from Cuba & the Dominican Republic. The nation had a quick turnaround with the cropit production, exporting coffee industrially for the first time as early as 1802.

Costa Rica
Costa Rica was the first nation in Central America to {haveestablish} a fully functional commercial coffee market. It was a major exporter of coffee around the {globe|world{ by the 1820’s.

Since the launch of the organization Instituto del Café de Costa Rica in 1933, Costa Rican coffee has boomed and in had good quality. However, Costa Rica only produces less than 1 percent of the {globe’sworld’s} coffee beans.

Since then, Honduras became the largest coffee producer in Central America.

El Salvador
El Salvador is the littlest country in Central America. It’s not supprising that El Salvador’s coffee production isn’t large.

Coffee came to El Salvador in the mid-1700’s, but really gained popularity once indigo farms decreased due to synthetic dyes in the 1800’s. By 1970, coffee cultivation made up for 50% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
