FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country and area will make a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people prefer to consume Arabica because it is less bitter & has a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has greater fruit yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other things that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted beans will keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various areas are be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee.
