FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each country and area will result in a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter and shows a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a major part in the taste profile of the coffee. Blending different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional things that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the different regions are be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
