FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation & area will make a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica as it is less bitter and shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee typcially keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various locations can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying beans.
