FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & region will make a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter and has a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major role in the taste profile of the beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various locations are be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee.
