FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country & region will make a different taste from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Mixing different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roasting process to make different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the beans from the various areas can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee.
