FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country and region will produce a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to have Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant role in the taste profile of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the beans from the various locations can often be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is important to think about when buying coffee.
