FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country & region will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has greater bean yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also influences a major part in the taste profile of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various regions are be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to think about when buying coffee.
