FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each country & location will result in a different taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather have Arabica as it is less bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also plays a major part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast process to make different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional aspects that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans typcially keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
