FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country and region will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica as it is less bitter and has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other conditions that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans typcially retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the coffee from the various locations can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee beans.
