FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation and area will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter and exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast beans typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different locations are be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying coffee beans.
