FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country & area will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have nicerbetter taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste profile of the coffee. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roast process to craft different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional conditions that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans typcially retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the various areas can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee.
