FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation and location will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee. Blending different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roast proceedure to make different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans typcially keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different areas are be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when buying coffee.
