FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation and region will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various locations can often be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee beans.
