FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country & area will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, many people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roast process to craft different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different areas are be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing beans.
