FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation & region will result in a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people prefer to drink Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast process also influences a significant part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roasting process to develop different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the different regions can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
